what are you scared of?

LITTLE h CREATIVE BUSINESS

I'm scared of success. Defining success can be a hard and scary thing. To be honest, I don't know what that looks like for me. Working Hard and being driven is not something I struggle with. And if being honest it can play a toll on me! At what point do I stop and slow down to know that I'm were I'm supposed to be. I'm scared that I'll wake up one day and have lost my definition of success and just be chasing everyone else's definition of what success looks like.

So today I'm writing it down. Success to me is living my purpose. Sharing the gifts God has entrusted me with. Showing my girls to dream big and work hard to accomplish them. Success is not asking for handouts. Success is feeling pride in what I HAVE accomplished. Success is loving my family hard. Every single day.

I want to help! As a creative entrepreneur with a business marketing degree I am always thinking about the best way to tell my story. We live in a world of social media which is an image and content based source of information. Professional images will benefit your business in so many ways. It provides a positive first impression through your website and/or your social media accounts (Instagram & Facebook).

The first tangible aspect of your brand is your logo and the second is your content. These two things are most commonly your viewers/potential clients first impression. An important part of branding is telling your story. When you are interested in a new brand or local business what's the first thing you do? Google them or search their account on Instagram? If said business has poor photos or content what is the likely hood that you will go eat there or use their services?

little h creative : three parts

this space, my business, is little h creative. i am kathryn hager, owner and creative entrpeneuer that has a vision for this space. i get ask all the time exactly what i do and often i have clients that only know about one part of this three part business.

  1. first, i screen print. i have been printing shirts for about 7 years now. i have learned so much and continue to get excited about designing and printing shirts. i print all of my own retail clothing for my booth space at The Alley Cat Vintage Mercantile and for my online store. i have also started printing custom orders again. which means if you have a fundraiser or event you would like shirts for i can design and print the shirts for you. contact me for more information and to get a quote. (minimum order of 25 shirts)
  2. second, i am a graphic designer. i have been doing this for about 2 years. i have a bachelors in business marketing and i think that is what sparked my interest in design and graphics. once i started printing more for myself i needed a better way to market myself and design my own shirts. learning adobe illustrator has changed my life and now i feel the options are endless. i love designing my own merchandise, logos and branding, and being able to help others has been such a blessing. design services include designing wedding invitations/stationary, logo & branding for creative individuals, businesses and events, and t-shirt designs.
  3. third, i am a photographer. i shot for hobby for about 3 years and have been professional for over a year. i attended a Joy Prouty // Wildflower Photography workshop in March 15' and that really developed my mind for capturing moments. i love shooting natural moments through lifestyle and simple sessions. i enjoy people so getting to know you and capturing those moments is such a joy.

taking that step

i am leaving my very secure wonderful job to be self employed and spend more time with my kids. it feels like this has been a long time coming - almost like a dream. when i decided to really launch little h creative with a website in january and putting myself out there i wasn't sure what would come of it. i have been so blessed with clients, inspiration, and support. it doesn't take me much to get inspired and have the desire to start creating things.

i had been on the virge, stressing about finances and pondering whether or not it was the right choice for our family. one day last week i went to visit a long time favorite shop (one I've always had a booth at on a very small scale and as little h prints) the alley cat. i was needing to talk to Julie, owner, about moving and enlarging my booth (because 922 indie where i currently had the bulk of my stuff was closing). i was taken to the third floor and i felt like i could almost cry. i saw a huge space with wood floors, tiffany blue walls, and endless possibilities.

right then i knew i had a passion inside me that needed to be used. i had to take the chance. the next day i told my boss and i took the first step of doing something i love.

two of many passions of mine is creating things and old stuff. i love making things with my hands and seeing the results. i easily get frustrated when i can't figure out how to make something. (usually because it requires some power tool i don't know how to use. thank goodness i have a very handy husband) i thrive and get extra excited when i walk into a thrift or "junk" store as some call them. my heart goes out to downtown properties that are not given the chance to grow and be renewed.

the space is to be called the alley cat attic. a space full of handmade and vintage items with a open concept boutique feel. not all the details are worked out yet but i am excited to move towards screen printing textiles; fabric, pillows, tote bags, tea towels, and more.

this will also be a space were i can meet clients for consultations and appointments. having a little space to call mine is so wonderful.  right now the bulk of my time is spent creating and designing items for the store.  a tentative open date is mid to end march.

these pictures really don't have much to do with this post except that all of this change will result in more time with these people who make this passion inside me so great.

so please stayed tuned. i am going to do my best to keep you updated! follow me on instagram (social icon is at the top of the page will take you to my instagram) i post regularly there.
